«RS Motor» has a fully equipped workshop in Porriño (Pontevedra, Spain) with the necessary experience, equipment and supplies to perform maintenance works on the gas engines we have under our maintenance or not. We also carry out reconditioning works for the most important elements of the engine.

ENGINE OVERHAULS

An engine overhaul is a major maintenance intervention, where the engine is removed and disassembled part by part, following approved assembly processes. Worn elements are replaced and the reconditioned engine is returned to its initial state of use.

Due to the complexity of the procedure, we generally take the overhauled engine to our workshop. Here we have all the necessary means and equipment to carry out these works with all the guarantees on engines up to 4.50 MW.

Sometimes, and where downtime makes it unfeasible to remove the engine to our workshop, we can perform the overhaul on an exchange block, minimizing downtime-machine and resuming production in minimal time.

RECONDITIONING ENGINES

Reconditioning an engine involves disassembling its mechanical elements, inspecting and verifying the state of the engine, cleaning the mechanical parts with ultrasounds and carrying out controls and/or hydraulic tests. Worn elements are replaced and the reconditioned engine is restored to zero hours.

Jenbacher gas engines, typical intervals for preventive maintenances

In this case we will try to show you the most common intervals of preventive maintenance steps on Jenbacher gas engines.

It is well know that the main Jenbacher engines on the market are: Jenbacher type 3, Jenbacher type 4 and/or Jenbacher type 6. The number of cylinders does not affect to the interval, but this is not the case with the type of gas (natural gas, landfill gas, sewerage gas, coal mine gas, syntgas…).

«RS Motor» is able to perform any type of preventive maintenance on Jenbacher gas engines. Usually preventive maintenances are performed on-site, but in case of Overhaul or major Overhaul, this could be carried out both “on-site” or in the workshop of «RS Motor».

In this case we are going to explain typical operations that «RS Motor» has to take into account when a Jenbacher engine which runs with natural gas needs PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE.

  • For replacement of expendables/consumables like oil filters, the interval should be about 1.000 – 2.000 running hours. Then, the intermediate maintenances occur each 10.000 running hours.
  • After that, in case of Jenbacher engines type 6, the Overhauls occur at 30K and/or 60K running hours. In this case, renew of pistons, main bearings, cylinder liners… is necessary. These Overhauls can be performed “on-site” or in «RS Motor».

Apart of preventive or scheduled maintenances, sometimes the engine has unexpected failures. When this happens, «RS Motor» goes to the customer’s power plant in order to make some inspections for determining the scope of damage. Then the engine is repair taking into account its history, the running hours, etc. This situation is usually called as CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE. The key is always to try to shorten the stop time of the power plant due t the fac that each hour the engine is stopped, means a lot of money to the final customer.

In both cases, when you need preventive or corrective maintenances, «RS Motor» is one of the best companies you have to take into account. Refurbishment of Jenbacher cylinder heads in RS Motor

Today we show you another refurbishment of cylinder heads. In this case, the cylinder heads are from a Jenbacher type 3 owned by one of our Portuguese customers.

The processes which are performed by «RS Motor» in order to refurbish each cylinder head, whatever the engine is, are the following ones:

  1. Reception.
  2. Complete disassembly.
  3. Cleaning by using an ultrasonic cleaning machine
  4. Test to check absence of cracks
  5. Renew of gaskets and other parts (valves, seats, springs, valve guides…).
  6. Assembly of the cylinder head.
  7. Hydraulic test.
  8. Primer and painting.
  9. Packaging and shipment.

Apart of the refurbishment of cylinder heads, «RS Motor» can supply both exchange cylinder heads (previously refurbished) and new cylinder heads. These options give an optimum quality/price ratio and also allow to shorten the downtime if the customer does not have any refurbished part in its power plant.
